A Dulcet Delight
extra fine fingering merino gradient set
    Sold out

Note from Sundara...I looked long and hard for a photo that had all the colors I wanted for this gradient/fade set, but I had something very specific in mind, and, well, I couldn't find an inspiration photo. I'm very sorry for my failure. But let's focus on the pretty yarn.

I wanted this to, uh, ombre? gradiate? I'm blanking on the proper term here. But I wanted it to change in not just value (dark to light) but hue (blue to green). So we started with dark blue and we move to a light green with a hint of yellow in it. Although even that yellow-green has some tealy-aqua hues, too. It's actually my favorite of the four. But they are all lovely and they make an absolutely gorgeous set and I'm having a hard time parting with all of them. I really, really want to keep one for myself. Maybe even two so I can knit a sweater. That's how pretty this one is. Sweater-worthy.

"A Dulcet Delight" will not be dyed again.

Extra Fine Fingering Merino is 437 yards and 100 grams of 100% super wash merino.

    A Trio of Temptation
extra fine fingering merino set

Note from Sundara...A bunch of you asked for the triadic color combination I did earlier this week on fingering merino. I am happy to oblige, although remember merino takes color differently than silk and alpaca.. Here's what I said about those colors the first time...

This is a "triadic color combination," which means each color on a color wheel is 120 degrees apart and if you drew a line between the three, it would form a triangle. Triangles are considered one of the most stable shapes and, not coincidentally, in color theory, triadic color combinations are considered some of the most harmonious. You pretty much can't go wrong when you combine them. And really, these look amazing together. So amazing, I decided to sell them as a set.

There are 80 bazillion projects for fingering weight yarn that use 3 colors. I know this because I checked Ravelry. so instead of giving you project options, I'm going to let you pick something. Because like I said last time, you can knit whatever you want out of this set. It will all work out because this is a triad of colors and you literally can't go wrong. It's mathematically impossible.

"A Trio of Temptation" will not be dyed again. Updated: 5 sets left.

Extra Fine Fingering Merino is 437 yards and 100 grams of 100% super wash merino.

    Arc de Triomphe
2 skeins left!

Note from Sundara...I've been wanting to use this photo for ages. It's the Arc de Triomphe, for starters. But I love how it gives such a sense of how it must feel at that specific moment in time. And the colors. I just love these colors.

#1 fingering silky merino singles (right) may not look like much, but I actually used bright orange and bright purple to get what is a hazy, spicy, coppery, rosy triumph of a color. If it were me, I'd pair it with #2 fingering silky merino singles (middle) and knit myself Stephen West's "Flying Foxtail Wrap." (2 skeins each color) Because, while the obvious choice for that project is two super contrasting colors, the projects I like best are those with two colors that have a medium contrast from the same color family. Like these two.

#3 Italian fingering merino cashmere (left) is for those who want a little bit of all the color but want it in one skein. It doesn't go all the way to the spicy, coppery burnt orange of #1, but it's got rich, deep shades of ruby red that wash over that deep blue-purple. It's pretty amazing.

"Arc de Triomphe" will not be dyed again. Updated: 2 skeins left of #2 and #3.

Fingering Silky Merino Singles is 437 yards and 100 grams of 75% super wash merino and 25% mulberry silk.

    Black Cherry Sorbet
extra fine fingering merino

Note from Sundara...It was requested that I dye a "fun summer color that could be used for lace or something with a stitch pattern." I've been fantasizing about making my own ice cream, so this photo of black cherry sorbet seemed fun, summery, and tasty. Doesn't that look sweet and delicious? The yarn is just as sweet and delicious.

And it's got just enough going on to make it interesting to work with, but not enough pizazz to make it hurt your eyes if you use it for something with a pattern. It'll be the perfect little summer sweater. Or summer shawl. Or you could put in a bowl and lick it. (Just kidding).

Note from Sundara...One thing that can be a conundrum when you want to use color theory for color combining is how to use red and green, which are complements, in a combo without them looking like CHRISTMAS. Christmas really ruined red and green for the rest of the year. Complements, in case you have forgotten, are colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. The answer, of course, is to lighten the red into pink. Which is why we all love a good pink and green combo.

One of the freedoms of not using an inspiration photo for the last few days is that I'm able to dye up colors I haven't felt the freedom to in a while. This green? Absolutely impossible to find in the photos I have access to. Or at least in photos that I have access to that are also pretty. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous green. I've avoided dyeing this particular green for years specifically because I can't find it in photos. And it is phenomenal with pink. Obviously it is, we are still talking math here. You can't go wrong when you use math to combine color. Especially in pink and green and especially on shiny, shiny silk.

"Complementary" will not be dyed again

    Echeveria
lace silky alpaca

Note from Sundara...I originally dyed this color way back in 2020 on fingering silky merino and it's one of those colors I get requests for a lot. Like all the time. I've resisted up until now. This time I got a request for a different yarn base (and I will dye it on that yarn base, promise) but it got me thinking I should try it on lace silky alpaca. I'm super glad I stopped resisting because this is amazing. Like so much better than I was expecting.

Way back then, I said that "I love these succulent photos because there is so much going on amongst the light and shadows. This one has those blue-aqua-turquoises, chartreuse-y yellow-greens, and magentas that aren't really a color but rather almost a transparency, in that it is a reflection of light." And that's pretty much how this yarn took the dye. Except now it's all that and fluffy, too.

"Echeveria" will be dyed again because I've promised to dye it on a different yarn base, but "Echeveria" won't be dyed again on lace silky alpaca. Updated: 1 batch left.

Lace Silky Alpaca is 328 yards and 50 grams of 75% brushed baby suri alpaca and 25% mulberry silk.

If it were me, I'd knit Joji's "Echoes of Color" shawl. This yarn is surprisingly lovely to throw over your shoulders on a summer night if the wind picks up. The other project I like is "Neridah" by Ambah O'Brien, which uses exactly 328 yards of three colors. It's like it was designed for this yarn. Or, pick something else. It will all work out because this is a triad of colors and you literally can't go wrong. It's mathematically impossible.

Note from Sundara...I may have mentioned that my parents were just took a Hawaiian vacation, which, you know, Hawaii is good inspiration. I saw this photo and thought...drama! And you know what drama makes for? People-stopper projects. The projects where, when you where them, people stop you and tell you how amazing it is and what a fantastic knitter you are. And don't we all love that? That's the best. Makes you feel like a million bucks and makes all those hours and hours of knitting worth it.

Personally, I love me some pink and orange, so I would use all three of these colors together, but even just the dark purple with either the orange or the pink would be sufficient people-stopper dramatic. Or, you could do just the orange and the pink because bright! is also people-stopper dramatic. You pretty much can't go wrong with any combination of these three. Go with whatever calls to you. It'll be the right people-stopper for you.

"Hawaiian Sunset" will not be dyed again. Updated: 3 skeins left of the dark purple.

Note from Sundara...I saw this photo and all I could think of was how my great-grandmother used to grow poppies this color. And how my mother had collected seeds from those poppies and grew them in her garden. AND how the saddest thing ever is that I think they've all died, and we no longer have my great-grandmother's heirloom poppies. So you know, I dyed yarn. For my mom.

I'm going to knit my mother a "Loop" shawl by Casapinka out of these colors. The glorious poppy purple will be the main color. The green, which may be hard to make out, but is actually inspire by the little yellow-green poppy center in the middle of the flower, will be loopy part of the shawl. It's going to be amazing. It won't bring back my great-grandmother's poppies, but it's going to be an heirloom. If you want to knit your very own heirloom "Loop," you'll need 1 skein of each color

"Le Coquelicot" will not be dyed again. Updated: 1 skein left of purple.

Note from Sundara...Well, I have to admit I felt entirely liberated by not using a inspiration photo last Friday. So much so that I didn't use one today and I may not use one tomorrow. I've been feeling increasingly constricted and like something has been holding me back with my yarn dyeing and it may just be that I feel constrained by using inspiration photos. I have some theories as to why, but I won't bore you. We are here to talk about yarn.

I obviously wasn't finished with my need to dye a blue-teal-green gradient, since I had these similar colors on Friday. The difference is this is obviously DK silky merino and there are only 3 shades instead of 4. Also, DK silky merino takes color way differently than the fingering merino. But OMG is it so soft and squishy. I was going to sell these as set, but honestly, I sort of want a sweater out of this yarn, so I'm offering them separately in case one of you wants to do the same. Although a sweater out of this gradient would be divine. You really can't go wrong no matter what you do with any combination of this yarn and these colors.

"Out of the Doldrums" will not be dyed again. Updated: 2 skeins left of the teal.

Note from Sundara...I have two goals with today's yarn. The first is to live vicariously through the color because I yearn for this rose bush, but I am not allowed any more rose plants (sigh). The second is to convince you that sport weight yarn is not the devil.

Seriously. Y'all seem to hate to knit anything with sport gauge. Periodically, one of you asks for it. I dye it, and it inevitably ends up being the least popular yarn weight of all time. Which makes no sense, because sport weight has so much to offer. It's faster to knit up than fingering, but still lightweight. It's a year-round gauge. Anything you make with it can be worn layered (still lightweight!) but is delicate enough that you can use it in the summer, when the nights get chilly.

So. Now that I've made the case for why you should make yourself something out of this glorious red sport weight yarn, what should you make? Have you seen the "Pasadena Pullover" by Mari Tobita? It's beyond gorgeous. You should knit it just to knit it it's such a lovely design. But, if you want something that will work for the upcoming warmer months, "Joni" by Nastasja Hornby is perfect for summer. And, if you don't want a sweater, there are tons of sport weight accessories patterns. I like the "Making Waves Cowl" by Kay Hopkins. And of course, for my crocheting friends, there is the "Honeybunch Tee" by Anne ten Haaf and the "Astrid shawl" by Tatsiana.

So many options! Such pretty yarn! Go forth and embrace the sport!

Note from Sundara...Our kitchen window looks out on our neighbors 60-acre field. Right now, it's filled with wildflowers, which, fine, are dandelions, but I can live in a fantasy world and pretend it is actually something like this photo. Which is why I I like the dreamy quality of it. Wouldn't it be lovely to live next door to something like this?

Instead, we'll have yarn. #1 is maybe the most perfect lilac-color I've ever dyed. I've dyed lots of lilac and I don't think I've ever come as close to an actual lilac flower as this. If you love lilacs, maybe splurge. #2, the green, I took some artistic license with. I wanted a darker, forest-y green rather than grass green, so that is what I dyed. It will make a gorgeous lace something. And #3 the orange-y yellow. Sigh. I could wax rhapsodic about this for days. It's cheery and sunshine and one of the best orange-y yellows I've dyed in a while. And I love pretty much anything yellow and anything orange, so that is saying something. The only real problem with this trio of colors is that there is only a half a batch of each, which isn't much.

"Spring Wildflowers" will not be dyed again. Updated: 2 skeins left of #1 & #2, 1 skein left of #3.

Note from Sundara...Okay. So this was not what today's color was supposed to look like. AT ALL. I had another inspiration photo picked out and I was ready to dye. And I dyed the yarn the first round (I often put my yarn through two dips in the dye pot, taking it out and spinning it nearly dry between dips). After the first dip, the color (that was supposed to be a green), looked the color on the right, that aqua overlayed with bronze. And let me tell you. It is gorgeous. Maybe the second most prettiest color I've ever dyed on silk (after the Champagne Kisses gold color). Maybe even prettier than Champagne Kisses. I could not bring myself to dye over it. It's STUNNING.

So I cheated. I threw out the inspiration photo and went and found a photo kind of close to that color. It's the closest I could find and I know it doesn't even have the other color in it. I contemplated just sending out yarn without a pretty inspiration photo, but I know how you all love your daily dose of pretty. And the other color? It was also supposed to be something completely different. I dyed that deep, dark, rich, and saturated magenta-wine-burgundy color to go specifically with the aqua-bronze color. And they really do look divine together. It's not an expected color combination, but it works. They'd make a stunning, well, pretty much whatever you want. You can't go wrong with yarn this pretty.

"The Indulgence of Beauty" will not be dyed again. Updated: 2 skeins of the magenta left.

Note from Sundara...This little guy is a "lilac-breasted roller" and according to Wikipedia is a "vagrant" to the southern Arabian peninsula. I sort of adore that birds can be vagrants. Especially such a cute bird. I had one of my best customers send me this photo and request a set of yarn inspired by our little vagrant to knit "Kallara" by Ambah O'Brien. Who could say no to that face? Also Kallara is a great pattern and those are some pretty colors. Like so pretty. I'm absolutely in love with this purple-tinged- with-pink and the turquoise is like looking out over a perfect Caribbean sea.

Since I dyed these colors to go together, I'm selling them as a set. You'll need 1 set to knit Kallara, which would really be amazing in this yarn wrapped around your neck. If Kallara isn't your thing, you could check out "Zorzal" by Lisa Hannes or the ever popular "Cladonia" by Kirsten Kapur. Both need 1 set, take full advantage of the silky cashmere softness and the glorious contrasting colors.

"The Littlest Birds" will not be dyed again. Updated: 1 set left. One set is two skeins: 1 skein of each color.

Note from Sundara...For those of you who may have not been paying attention, lots of us were able to see the Northern Lights over the weekend. I have the circadian rhythm of a toddler, so I missed them. But I was told by my niece that they were spectacular. My niece was so impressed that she wanted to commemorate them with something, and I suggested yarn. Or, rather, something made out of Northern Lights-inspired yarn.

We picked out this photo because it did not have a lot of that nuclear-reactor green that you see in a lot of photos of the aurora borealis. I think everyone will thank my niece for that. The yarn is maybe not quite as spectacularly impressive as the actual in-person Northern Lights. But if you want a little project to remind yourself of that time you saw the aurora borealis or if you want a little something-something to make yourself feel better because you missed them or because you also have the bedtime of a toddler, I think this yarn will do the trick.

"The Northern Lights" will not be dyed again. Updated: 2 batches left

Note from Sundara...I have two more batches of the baby silky yak, and I wanted to do one of them (today's) in a dark wine red because that is always popular. So I went with this photo because it's another I wouldn't have normally picked because mixing orange and magenta aren't popular, but breaking it down into three different colors loosely inspired by the photo? All sorts of fun things.

The baby silky yak (#1 and far left in the trio) is the most straightforward. Like I said, it is a dark wine red and glorious in silk and yak. Yak being even softer than cashmere. The fingering merino cashmere (#3 and far right in the trio) is all sorts of dark browns with glints of orange and some reds in it from the inspired dawn. It literally feels like a rich velvet. But the fingering merino singles (#2 and the middle of the trio) is the one I find the most interesting. It's a combo of dark cherry reds and a deep, muted fuchsia - pretty much the color of the sky in the photo above the orange. It's not a color combination you see often, but it works well in this color. It should knit up oh so pretty; the two colors blending together to make something so much more than each as an individual. I hope some of you will try it out.

"The Velvet Light of Dawn" will not be dyed again. Just a few skeins of #2 left.

    Three O'Clock Rock
fingering silky yak set

Note from Sundara...I had every intention of keeping to my word and NOT dyeing this yarn again. It's gorgeous, fabulous yarn that I love knitting with, but I do not like dyeing with it. The skeins are small and just get messy for some reason. But. Here's the thing. I came across "Onda d'Amore" by Justyna Lorkowska, which is a lovely little 3-color shawl knit out of this yarn and I just HAD to dye up a triadic color combination for it because it would be gorgeous and fabulous and lovely.

You can check out the pattern here. (Seriously, go look, it's worth it). Here colors are lovely, but these colors are even better. These three colors (red-orange, blue-violet, and yellow-green) are equidistant (120 and 240 degrees) apart on the color wheel, which makes them a triangle, and a triangle is the most stable shape. Like I've said before, you cannot go wrong with this color combination because math proves it. It's the perfect pattern, the perfect yarn, and the perfect colors.

"Three O'Clock Rock" will not be dyed again. Ten sets available. Each set contains 2 skeins of blue-violet (MC), and 1 skein each of the red-orange and yellow-green (CCs). You need one set to knit "Onda d'Amore."

Fingering Silky Yak is 219 yards and 50 grams of 50% baby yak and 50% mulberry silk.
7 stitches and 9 rows per inch on US 3/3.25mm needles.

Note from Sundara...I've been trying to figure out how to dye yarn based on this inspiration photo for, well, a couple years. It's a glorious photo. All those rich colors, and we love poppies. When I finally admitted it could not be dyed as a single-skein color, I originally thought I'd make this a duo color combo, but then I thought it might be interesting to expand it and see what happened. And isn't this pretty? In a dark and mysterious way?

The best of the bunch is #1, the blue fingering silk. It's that dark sky blue but it's got greeny-teal bits layered underneath that give it a subtle richness and depth of color that makes it so much more than just blue. It pairs super gorgeously with #4, the red, which I toned down just a tad so it's a rich, summer red rather than BRIGHT summer red. The others, #2, the red fingering silky merino singles and #3, the dark blackened blue layered over green in fingering silky merino are for those of you who maybe don't like knitting with 100% silk. The red is a little more twilight, with a blue layered over it, and the green is a bit more mysterious, what with those darks layered over the brighter poppy stem-green. Each skein is lovely all on its own, or, as a set of four, they capture the rich feel of summer poppies.

"Twilight of the Poppies" will not be dyed again. Half a batch of each color available.
